As a wedding photographer one of the most important qualities one must posses is heart. Metaphorically speaking of course. It is what enables the photographer to seek out relationships and story telling at an occasion that is surrounded by emotion. Some of the most powerful defining moments in ones life is usually shared with the same people that help build the person you are today. Parents, siblings, extended family and friends all celebrating an occasion that will become one of those moments for the bride and the groom. Immersing oneself into the lives of complete strangers as a photographer is not hard when you have heart. Capturing the emotion then becomes second nature. At Fabio’s and Vanessa’s wedding I was fortunate to spend a day with two families that celebrated life and love like no other. It was an experience that has enriched my life and I will be eternally grateful. This is a rather long post for a wedding, however I wanted to share my experience as a photographer who has been shooting weddings since 1989. I have seen it all, as you would expect and I realise that many moments that resonate with you today, may not have years before. However on this occasion I was truly blown away by the positive and wonderful nature of this beautiful couple. At our pre wedding meeting Vanessa informed me that her father was wheel chair bound and had trouble breathing. I found out later that he had Motor Neurone disease , a disease that attacks the body’s muscle tissue. Usually when someone close to the family has an illness of this severity, the house and the mood is usually heavy and forced with fake smiles and a sense of “..don’t mention the elephant in the room..” . This wedding was far from that. It was a celebration of life. The dignity and respect was not only heart warming but overwhelming to say the least. It was a great day full of laughs and beautiful moments. The high light for me were my last few frames of the day. Instead of the father daughter dance, all the guests were invited to the dance floor and were presented with a slideshow of father and daughter pics and many family photographs from early baby pics to the present day. Many laughs and tears and a moment that I will treasure for life. I was so moved by the experience that I was unable to say good bye without tears streaming down my face. Thanks for a great day guys. Wedding reception at Crown River Room and ceremony was at St Mary Star of the Sea. Great cars from Triple R Classic cars. Amazing dress was from Julie Simonelli and rings from Mario’s Jewellers
