Poonam and Rishi had booked with me quite a while ago for their wedding and were very excited about getting married. As Poonam and Rishi both had different cultural backgrounds, there was alot involved with their ceremony. Today would involve them being a part of three different marriage ceremonies, not to mention all the other traditions that would be performed throughout the day.
We started off with Rishi at his parents house, we arrived at the house very early to find everyone abuzz and getting organised. There was just one slight glitch and that was the Rishi himself wasn’t there! He had slept through his and two other alarms after having a rather large social evening the night before. He made it with a few minutes to spare and we quickly got to work getting everything we needed to do before leaving to see Poonam and her family.
When we arrived at Poonam’s family home, there was so much going on. With Indian tradition, celebrations continue for days before the wedding so there was a large marquee in the front yard to house the celebrations. We went upstairs to find the girls hard at work getting Poonam ready, Poonam was bright as a button chirping away. Once we had finished with some family photos, we headed to the ceremony to get ready for the three separate ceremonies which spanned over 4 hrs.
The traditional Hindu ceremony was the best one I have been to, the person conducting the ceremony was wonderful explaining everything that he was about to do in English. Even though the ceremony went for a couple of hours, it didn’t feel like it because we were so intrigued.
The next ceremony was the Traditional Buddhist Poruwa ceremony and then of course the civil marriage ceremony to make everything legal by Australian Law.
After these marathon events, all the guests were treated to a buffet lunch before we headed off to St Lucia for some bridal party photos. Poonam and Rishi were having their wedding reception at Indooroopilly Golf Club so it was only a short distance to the reception once we had finished at the university.
